UN Food Systems Summit 2021: Independent Dialogue Series in Asia-Pacific
Organizer: Asian Farmers’ Association for Sustainable Rural Development (AFA), Inter-Continental Network of Organic Farmers Organisations (INOFO), World Farmers’ Organization (WFO), and Pacific Island Farmers Organisation Network (PIFON)
Theme: 1. Raise farmer awareness and elevate public discussion about how reforming our food systems can help us all to achieve the SDGs by implementing reforms that are good for people and planet
2. Highlight our solutions and key messages to:effectively implement VGGSF and build capacities of small fishers, highlighting the roles, contributions, solutions, initiatives of women and youth small scale producers and fishers; promote local traditional crops and local diets to ensure food security and nutrition adapt to climate change through different sustainable adaptation systems, especially agro ecology, organic agriculture, the use of resilient crops and by strengthening the local knowledge and capacities of small-scale producers in producing local crops and promoting local, domestic markets strengthen family farming organizations and effectively implementing multi stakeholder UNDFF processes guided by UNDROP increase market power of family farmers/fishers.
3. Generate pro-farmer policy recommendation and significant action and measurable progress towards the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development by identifying solutions and leaders, and issuing a call for action at all levels of the food system, including national and local governments and development partners.
4. Agree on a system of follow-up and review to ensure that the recommendations generated at the independent dialogue are considered in the various action tracks towards new actions and progress.

Theme: The Asia-Pacific Association of Agricultural Research Institutions (APAARI), in collaboration with partners, is inviting you to a virtual Regional Consultation on Forgotten Foods in Asia-Pacific Developing a Regional Manifesto that will take place on Friday, 28 May 2021, from 14:00-16:50hrs (Bangkok, Thailand TIME). The Consultation will seek information and set priorities from collective actions to promote research, innovation, education, sustainable production, processing, marketing and consumption of forgotten food. Specifically, the Conference aims to:
– Improve different stakeholders’ recognition of the importance and value of forgotten species and sustainable agricultural technologies, such as agroecological approaches, participatory plant breeding, efficient seed systems, and new technologies.
– Articulate and analyse multi-level (institutional, organizational, individual) capacity development needs in the areas of research, extension, education and development across the value chain of such crops.
– Identify strategic and effective ways to lobby and advocate for policy innovations to ensure the use and conservation of forgotten food, such as incentives for their cultivation and conservation, as well as incentives for farmers to innovate.
– Identify possible areas for collaborative research projects and partnership opportunities, and discuss the establishment of a Regional Knowledge Hub on Forgotten Food.
